Revolution Square Bucharest
2014 marked the 25th anniversary of the uprising of the Romanian people against their dictator Ceausescu. These events leading to the revolution in Bucharest primarily took place at one location, the palace square (now known as the Revolution Square). Approximately 100,000 people were gathered here on December 21 in 1989, shortly after the crushed down revolt in Timisoara, in western Romania. They were forced to listen to their communist leader. What was supposed to be just another of the dictator’s speeches quickly turned into a violent revolution.
These events inspired me to create a pop-up book in the style of a map. It visualizes how the events took place.
Cleopatra’s Riddle
Cleopatra, was the last active pharaoh of Egypt almost 2000 years ago. Yet still known as one of the most powerful female leaders. Not only is she described as a beautiful woman, but was also renowned for her intellect.
Cleopatra remains a source of endless fascination in Western culture. Her legacy survives in numerous works of art and many dramatizations of incidents from her life in literature and other media.
The story of her mysterious ending and the puzzling pyramids, inspired me to make this pop-up book. The pop-up book is a quest through her possible pyramid, since her real has never been found.
